Coffee bags are the latest hype on the coffee scene. With more people working from home at the moment, the idea of a hybrid of instant coffee and delicious fresh ground coffee will tickle even the most seasoned coffee drinkers.

I ventured out to my local ASDA to see what I could find. Walking down the coffee aisle I am struck by the amount of choice. We’re all lucky enough to have the choice of instant coffee, coffee bags, instant cappuccino sachets, ground coffee and coffee beans. That's not mentioning all of the other coffee products that can be found in the chilled section.

Looking at the coffee bags selection we see it’s dominated by Taylors, their ‘Rich Italian Coffee’ looks the best on the shelf in its bright green packaging. Taking a further look at this pack I can see that the roast level is 4 but it is not clear what that's out of? So I turn the pack over to read that the coffee is from Latin America and Africa, with no mention of ratio. Putting the pack back down and picking up the Lyons coffee bags that were sat next to it. The ‘Go Joe No3’ is a similar colour to the Taylors bags that so it seems like a good comparison. The back of the pack says ‘With a twirl of his moustache and a get-up and go attitude, Sir Joseph Lyons brought fresh coffee to the nation. This rich and full-bodied take on his original continues that proud tradition.’. Interesting, and also really good to see that the bags are 100% compostable.
